A2 GHEE, A MUST FOR BABIES AND TODDLERS!
Milk and its substitutes have been on our nutrition list since time immemorial. Its substitutes such as ghee are not only a kitchen staple but also the very first source of nutrition for babies and toddlers.
Wholesome nutrition is crucial especially for babies as it gives them the energy to take the first step or even when they are crawling on their fours. You might have heard how our elders emphasise feeding babies with foods made from desi cow ghee.
But did you know how A2 ghee is beneficial for babies? Read this article to know more:
What is A2 ghee?
Before we move on to the benefits of A2 ghee for babies, let us first understand what is A2 ghee. A2 ghee is simply ghee made from A2 milk. The ‘A2’ in A2 milk is nothing but a specific type of protein that has nutritional benefits, which we will discuss later in the article. Interestingly, mammals including humans and cows produce A2 milk, which is why elders emphasise breastfeeding or including cow’s milk in babies’ daily diet. Foreign-bred cow milk contains both A1 and A2 proteins, which can be hard to digest especially for a baby’s sensitive tummy.
Benefits of A2 Ghee for Babies:
On the other hand, desi cow ghee, especially Gir cow ghee is made from a traditional hand-churned ‘bilona’ process which keeps essential macro and micro-nutrients intact. A2 ghee is a rich source of antioxidants, vitamins like B2, B12, B6, C, E, and K, and omega-6 fatty acids that are essential for babies’ healthy growth.
- Efficient digestion and absorption –Health experts suggest that an efficient digestion and absorption of nutrients is essential for optimum immunity. A2 ghee aids in the secretion of digestive acids that break down food easily and eliminate toxins from the body. This increases the absorption of nutrients, thereby promoting the healthy growth of the baby.
- Optimum body nourishment – Ever wondered why babies and toddlers are massaged with desi cow ghee? Desi cow ghee being A2 ghee nourishes and lubricates body tissues, making them stronger. It is also believed that having a spoonful of ghee in the morning on an empty stomach also improves the process of cell rejuvenation.
- Enhanced brain function – This is one of the major benefits of A2 ghee for babies. Including desi cow ghee in babies’ daily food nourishes the brain and the nervous system. It increases their memory and concentration power, thereby enhancing their cognitive function.
- Stronger bones – Babies and toddlers have a brittle skeletal structure. Massaging their body with desi cow ghee makes their bones stronger and reduces the risk of bone degeneration, thus helping them to take their first step from crawling on their fours.
- Eliminates cough and cold –Babies are more sensitive to changes in weather than adults. Hence, they may be more vulnerable to cough and cold. Using slightly warmed desi cow ghee as a ‘nasal drop’ or applying it to their belly button can help provide relief from cough and cold symptoms.
